Living in your THRIVE ZONE

If you haven't already listened to the podcast that goes with this... check it out here! (and stay tuned for another great one at the end of the week!)

To live in your THRIVE ZONE one must create a grace space.

Thrive- to grow vigorously : do well : flourish.

Grace Space- gift of silence and allow them to be in the moment with their thoughts, and to hear from the Holy Spirit.

How do you create this Grace Space and live in your Thrive Zone?

Thrive Zone Ingredients!

  1. Spiritual Health

  2. Physical Health

  3. Mental Health

  4. Emotional Health

Directions to creating a thrive zone

Healthy habits and structure to our days allows for us to set ourselves up for success.

2 main aspects to establishing healthy habits and structure are:

1. Boundaries - these protect our time and energy but also our spirits! Boundaries provide space for grace, exercise, nutrition, sleep, and relaxation to help us live our best lives.

Boundaries are needed in many ways. People, places, things can all be soul suckers and those soul suckers are the reason we don’t have time and energy.

Notice I said THRIVE ZONE.. not thrive lane, never ending.. There is a need for barriers on both ends of the spectrum.

We know about setting our boundaries on the lower end, not trying at all, but what about exceeding the boundary line on the other end of the spectrum? Doing too much… constantly pushing and forcing things to happen? This is why there is the THRIVE ZONE!

You don’t have control over certain things, like what other people do, but you do have control over you, your spirit, and how you respond.

A great example of this rainbow is at one end you have your lack of will, your lack of motivation to even start working out or eating healthy because you Fear Failure.. Then on the other end you take it to the extreme, you are stretched too thin, over trained, over worked, over stressed….

Enjoy the middle part of the rainbow, the most colorful, the thrive zone, don’t focus on unrealistic expectations to get you to the pot of gold, remember baby steps, faith as small as a mustard seed, and calling on God daily will get you to move that mountain!

Proverbs says “ A person who doesn’t rule his spirit is like a city with broken down walls.”

2. Chunking your day!

When we break things down into smaller goals, we realistically work our way up that mountain with baby steps to achieve the same larger goals.

For example: For the new year you may have had an overall large goal you want to achieve, yet looking ahead to that goal can be daunting. So in order to set yourself up for success you consider breaking the year down into quarters. Then taking each quarter and breaking down smaller goals within it that are much more manageable. Remember to include the ingredients of the Thrive Zone (and note: CDA recommends 150 minutes of moderate intensity cardio a week and 2 full body strength sessions a week)

Early Morning Chunk 1

6am wakeup, quick daily prayer, brush teeth.. Throw some gym clothes on..

6:15am Feed the pups, get the kids fed..grab a little something for you

6:30 am get out the door or on your cardio machine for your 22 minutes.

7:00 am strength training if it’s your day to include that

7:45 am jump in the shower

8:15 am take the kids to school/go to work. Snag a health protein bar or smoothie to have on the way (don’t forget to pack healthy lunches, snacks, and water!)

Morning Chunk 2

Work work work.. Lunch 11 ish work a bit more..

Afternoon Chunk 3

1 pm snack time!

Work some more

Afternoon Chunk 4

Leave work 3pm to pick up kids

Take this kid to this practice drop off by 3:25 pm, then

Take this kid over this practice drop off by 3:30 pm,

Head home to prep dinner 4-5pm

5pm pick up kids and

Dinner 5:30 pm

Night Chunk 5

6:00 pm dinner concludes/dishes, clean up. (this is also a great time to put throw pillows back, organize any little mess ups in the house so you can start the day fresh)

7:00 pm start getting the kids ready for bed, start your nightly routine (washup etc)

7:15 pm bible reading, followed by mediation on the word, and journaling on the word and gratitude. ( you can also consider a gratitude journal at the dinner table for the whole family!)

8:00 pm prayers with the family and bedtime.

  • There is still a lot of “play around time” in this example and I do realize that most career parents work much more than this or some even exercise much more than this, but you can see how the structure helps keep the day from overwhelming you! Taking it one chunk at a time :)

Action Items: Work through this Thrive list of Questions with a trusted partner.

  1. What’s working?

  2. What’s not working? (are you settling for things?)

  3. What changes do I need to make? (brainstorm)

  4. What would the ideal outcome be? What would that look like?

  5. What are you willing to give up?

  6. What is non-negotiable?

  7. Who may I need for support?

  8. How may I need support

  9. Where do I need to ask for support

  10. How will I stay accountable

  11. Take the time to journal all 7 days of a week with time, eating, exercise, responsibilities (yes slightly No fun, but it can absolutely benefit your balance living in the Thrive Zone- it will highlight the “wasted junk time/soul suckers” and give you back more grace space and balance!)
